Ten years ago, this little love book came out. It’s sold hundreds of thousands of copies. It’s broken the top 500 books on Amazon and had a nationwide Valentine’s Day event at Barnes & Noble. It’s been given as a gift to all the beautiful kiddos and babies in my life.

But right now, everything that made this book possible is under threat. What happens if PBS is defunded? What happens if Sesame Street and its important messages of inclusion for kids of every background are deemed too woke? Today, even a book about Elmo is political.

But that’s because reading is political. Education is political. Love is political. So use your voice—bonus points if it’s your best Cookie Monster impression—and keep speaking up for the freedom to read.
